How does hot tub removal work?

  1. Text us a photo. Show the tub, where it sits (patio, deck, side yard), and the path to the street: gates, steps, slopes.
  2. Get your price. You’ll know the cost before we start. It depends on the tub’s size, how hard it is to reach, and whether it has to be cut into sections.
  3. Power off. Flip the breaker before we arrive, and drain the tub if you can (details below).
  4. We remove it. Our crew lifts it out whole when the access allows, or cuts it into sections when it won’t fit through a gate or side yard. On bigger jobs we bring a loader.
  5. Haul and sort. We load it into our dump trailer, separate what can be recycled, and take the rest to a licensed disposal facility.
  6. Sweep-up. We clean up the pad or deck area before we leave.

How much does hot tub removal cost?

Every hot tub is different, so we quote from photos instead of guessing. The things that move the price:

Text a couple of photos to (408) 310-0246 and you’ll get a price before any work starts.

Do I need to disconnect the power first?

We can handle the disconnect, but it’s easiest if you flip the hot tub’s breaker off before we arrive. If your spa plugs into an outlet, just unplug it and you’re set.

Some tubs are hardwired, and once in a while the wiring needs to be properly shut off and capped by a licensed electrician. Not sure which kind you have? Text us a photo of where the power runs into the tub and we’ll let you know.

Do I need to drain my hot tub?

It helps, but it’s not a deal-breaker. An empty tub is lighter and easier to move. Can’t drain it? No problem. Just tell us when you book and we’ll plan for it.

Draining it yourself? Run the hose to your home’s sewer cleanout, not the street or storm drain. That’s the one rule that matters.

Do I need a permit to remove a hot tub?

It depends on the kind of tub. A portable, above-ground spa that sits on a pad or deck is usually a haul-away job once the power is off. An in-ground spa is demolition: Gilroy, for example, requires a demolition permit with utility disconnection and inspections, and Santa Clara County has its own permit process for unincorporated areas like San Martin. If any electrical work is involved, check with your city’s building department first. We’re happy to point you in the right direction.

What happens to your old hot tub?

We don’t pretend a whole hot tub gets recycled. Most can’t be. Here’s what we actually do:

What can be recycled depends on how the tub was built and what the receiving facility accepts. See more on how we recycle and donate.

Can I take a hot tub to the dump myself?

You can, but you’ll need a trailer, a few strong helpers, and a call ahead. Most local facilities don’t list hot tubs specifically, so ask before you load up.

Hot tub removal FAQs

How long does it take?

Most hot tubs are out in a single visit. Tubs that need to be cut up, or that sit on a deck or behind a tight gate, take longer. We’ll give you an idea when we quote.

Can you get it out of a tight backyard?

Yes. When a tub won’t fit through a gate or side yard, we cut it into sections and carry it out.

Do you take the cover, steps, and surrounding deck?

Yes. We can take the cover, steps, decking, a gazebo, or other junk on the same trip. Mention it when you book so it’s in your quote.

Do I need to be home?

Not always. If the tub is outside and we can get to it, we can work while you’re away and send photos when it’s done. The power still needs to be off before we arrive.

Do you remove the concrete pad?

Ask us. It depends on the size and thickness. Send a photo and we’ll let you know.

Facility and city information was checked against official city, county, and facility sources in October 2026. Rules and hours change, so call ahead before hauling anything yourself.
