Hot tubs on the Peninsula often sit in places that make removal hard: a deck above a slope, a side yard reached by a narrow gate, a patio ringed with fences and plantings. A cracked shell or dead pump rarely changes where it sits, so the tub just becomes a few hundred pounds of fiberglass and wood in the yard.
Photograph the spa, the route out and the electrical box, then send them over. We tell you what the job looks like. Most tubs can be cut into pieces, carried out and loaded without damaging your gate or lawn. We need the spa drained and the power shut off at the breaker first, and an electrician should disconnect any hardwired supply.

What a hot tub job includes
- Drained and disconnected tubs
Standard acrylic or fiberglass spas, cut up and carried to the truck.
- Decks and platforms
Wooden cabinets, skirt panels and the platform the tub sat on.
- Concrete pad leftovers
Loose pavers and small slabs you can lift, while heavy pad demolition is a separate trade.
- Covers, steps and equipment
Lifters, steps, covers, pumps and loose plumbing parts.
Hot tub jobs we see on the Peninsula
- Hillside deck tub
A spa sits on a Skyline Forest deck with stairs down to the street. We cut it apart on the deck and carry pieces down.
- Side-yard spa
A tub in a Deer Flats side yard has a 3 ft gate. We cut it in sections so nothing scrapes the fence.
- Old tub, new patio
A homeowner in Casanova Oak Knoll is replacing the spa area with a seating patio. We clear the tub and the cabinet first.
What happens to a hot tub after it is cut apart
The pieces get sorted. Metal frames, motors and heaters are separated for recycling, and ReGen Monterey has a free scrap-metal drop-off at its recycling area. The shell, insulation and wooden cabinet go in as construction and demolition debris at the landfill, which ReGen runs on Del Monte Blvd. north of Marina.
Hot tubs are not on the usual donation lists, so reuse is rare. If yours still works, a neighbor or an online listing may take it. Otherwise we handle the tear-out. Facility rules appear in the Monterey dump guide.

Monterey FAQ: Hot Tub Removal
Do I need to drain the hot tub before you come?
Yes, please. Drain it fully and shut off the breaker. We handle the rest.
Who disconnects the wiring?
If the tub is hardwired, a qualified electrician should remove the supply. Plug-in models are simpler.
Can you get a tub out of a narrow Monterey side yard?
Usually. We cut the shell into pieces that fit through the gate, which beats trying to lift it whole.
Will you remove the concrete pad?
We take loose pieces and small slabs. Breaking up a poured pad is concrete work, and we can tell you what we can handle from your photo.
What happens to the hot tub afterward?
Metal goes to recycling, and the shell and cabinet go to the landfill as construction debris.
Can a working spa be donated?
Rarely. Most reuse stores do not take spas. If you want to try, post it locally before booking us.
