Can I take junk to the Santa Cruz dump myself?

Only if you live in the city. The City of Santa Cruz Resource Recovery Facility at 605 Dimeo Lane, off Highway 1 north of town, takes loads only from City of Santa Cruz residents and businesses, with proof of residency. It’s open Monday–Saturday 7:30–3:30, and trailers with beds over 8 feet get weighed (City of Santa Cruz).

Where do I take paint and chemicals in Santa Cruz?

The County HHW program is free for residents of the City of Santa Cruz, Capitola, Scotts Valley and unincorporated areas. The city facility at 605 Dimeo Lane takes HHW on Saturdays 7:30–3:30, and Buena Vista takes it Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. The Ben Lomond HHW site is closed until September 2027 (Santa Cruz County). We can’t haul hazardous waste, so set it aside before we arrive.

Can I drain my hot tub into the street in Santa Cruz?

No. The City of Santa Cruz says never to discharge pool or spa water to the street, gutter or storm drain. Drain it to the sanitary sewer through a cleanout instead (City of Santa Cruz). Once it’s empty, we can take the tub. See hot tub removal in Santa Cruz.

What are the illegal dumping fines in Santa Cruz County?

In unincorporated Santa Cruz County, fines went up in July 2025 from $100 to $2,500 for a first offense, $5,000 for a second and $10,000 for a third within a year (Santa Cruz County). A “free” couch on the curb isn’t worth that. Text us a photo instead.

Santa Cruz junk removal FAQs

How much does junk removal cost in Santa Cruz?

It depends on how much there is and how hard it is to reach. Text a few photos to (408) 310-0246 and you’ll get a price before we start. See how our pricing works, or read about affordable junk removal in Santa Cruz.

I live outside city limits. Where would my junk go if I hauled it myself?

Buena Vista Landfill or the Ben Lomond Transfer Station, not the city facility on Dimeo Lane. Or skip the trip and let us take it.

Do you clear apartments for landlords and property managers?

Yes. Move-outs, evictions and abandoned property. See move-out junk removal.

Do I need to be home?

Not always. If the items are outside or in an open garage, we can work while you’re away and send photos when it’s done.

City and county details were checked against official sources in October 2026. Programs, hours and fees change, so call ahead before hauling anything yourself.
