Appliances are heavy, awkward, and often parked in the places that are hardest to reach: a laundry closet behind a narrow hallway, a garage with a second fridge, a back deck on a sloped lot. In Scotts Valley, where many homes sit on hillsides and townhomes have stairs, the carry is the real job.
We handle it. Tell us what you have, send a photo, and we come to the room it is in, wrap it if needed, walk it out and load it. Refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, dishwashers and ranges all go. Where an appliance still works we look at donation, metal goes to recycling where possible, and the rest goes to a permitted facility.
Appliances we carry out
- Refrigerators and freezers
Full-size fridges, chest freezers and the extra garage unit nobody opens.
- Washers and dryers
Stackables from townhome closets and laundry pairs from basement or garage rooms.
- Ranges, ovens and dishwashers
Freestanding ranges and built-in units that have already been disconnected.
- Small appliances
Microwaves, window units and other smaller items, loaded with the big ones.
Refrigerator removal Scotts Valley: fridges and freezers out of garages and kitchens
Refrigerator removal Scotts Valley hillside homes need often starts at a garage door at the top of a steep driveway, where the old second fridge has been humming for years. We bring a dolly, strap the doors shut, and walk it down to the trailer. Side-by-sides, chest freezers and compact units go the same way. Please empty and unplug it first so it can drain before we arrive.
Fridges and freezers carry refrigerant, so we send them toward appliance recycling where possible rather than treating them like an ordinary load.
Washer dryer removal Scotts Valley: laundry sets from closets and garages
Washer dryer removal Scotts Valley townhomes call for is often upstairs: a stacked or side-by-side pair in a laundry closet, with a turn in the stairs. We carry the set out together and protect the railings and walls on the way down. Steel drums and frames go to metal recycling where possible.
You or your installer shut off the water and, for a gas dryer, the gas, and disconnect the hoses and vent before we arrive. We do not do plumbing or gas work.
Where appliances go
GreenWaste Recovery runs a Bulky Item Collection in Scotts Valley that picks up small appliances at the curb when you schedule it ahead of time, and the program does not accept hazardous waste. We are the alternative for a large fridge, an appliance upstairs, or a house where you would rather not move it to the curb yourself.
Appliances can go to a recycler, but county self-haul sites such as Buena Vista Landfill near Watsonville and the Ben Lomond Transfer Station ask for proof of residency, and they do not accept e-waste in a mixed load. Refrigerators and freezers also have to be emptied of food before we arrive.

Typical appliance jobs around Scotts Valley
- Second fridge in a hillside garage
A family replaces the kitchen fridge and has an old one in the garage at the top of a steep driveway. We bring a dolly up the slope and load both.
- Washer and dryer from a townhome
An upper-floor laundry closet holds a washer-dryer pair that has to go before the new set is delivered. We walk them down the stairs, protecting the railings and the walls.
- Range left behind in a rental
A landlord clears an old gas range and a dishwasher from a rental unit after a remodel. The gas is already shut off and capped, so we haul both.

Scotts Valley FAQ: Appliance Removal
Do I have to disconnect the appliance first?
Please unplug it and, for water or gas lines, have them shut off and capped by you or a professional. We handle the lifting and haul-away, not the plumbing or the gas.
Do you take refrigerators with food inside?
Please empty them first. Anything left inside makes the carry heavier and messier.
Can the GreenWaste bulky program take my washer?
The program picks up small appliances at the curb with scheduling. Ask the hauler if a washer or fridge qualifies. We carry from inside the home when it does not or when you do not want to move it.
Will the appliance be recycled?
Where possible. Metal goes to recycling, working units can go to donation, and the rest goes to a permitted facility.
Can you remove a gas range?
Yes, as long as the gas line has been shut off and capped by a qualified person.
