Scotts Valley residents have a local option worth knowing about. GreenWaste Recovery runs a Bulky Item Collection, with small appliances and furniture picked up at the curb after you schedule it, generally about three days ahead. The city’s 2021 franchise agreement, as we read it, includes a couple of bulky goods per household each year at no extra charge, with mattresses counting as bulky goods. Terms can change, so confirm the current rules with GreenWaste.
That program is a good fit for one or two items you can drag to the curb. We are the full-service option for everything else: heavy pieces, items upstairs, more than the program covers, or a household that would simply prefer someone else do the lifting. We carry it out of the room it is in, load it and take it away. Hazardous waste is not accepted by GreenWaste, and we cannot haul it either.
Using the local program, and when to call us
Use the GreenWaste bulky collection if you have one or two curbside-ready items and can wait for the scheduled date. Call us if the program will not take the item, you have too many pieces, the item is too heavy to move alone, or you need it gone on your own timeline. We do not replace weekly service from GreenWaste.
Self-haul is possible at the county’s Buena Vista Landfill near Watsonville or the Ben Lomond Transfer Station, with proof of residency. A GreenWaste newsletter says Scotts Valley residents can recycle a mattress for free at Ben Lomond, but that is worth confirming before you drive. Paint and chemicals go to the county’s free household hazardous waste program for residents.

Furniture removal Scotts Valley and couch removal Scotts Valley: sectionals carried out
Furniture removal Scotts Valley style is mostly a carrying job. A sectional in a townhome off Scotts Valley Drive may have to come apart and go down a flight of stairs, and a dresser in a hillside house off Glenwood Drive may sit a long driveway away from the trailer. We take pieces apart where we need to, wrap them, and walk them out so nothing has to be dragged to the curb.
Couch removal Scotts Valley households ask about most is the sofa that will not go back out the way it came in. Send a photo along with the width of the front door and hallway and we plan the angle, then lift, tip and carry. Loveseats, recliners and sleeper sofas go the same way, and pieces still in good shape head toward donation where possible.
For mattress removal Scotts Valley residents can ask GreenWaste first, since mattresses count as bulky goods in the franchise agreement as we read it. If you would rather have it carried out of the bedroom, see our mattress removal page or text us a photo.

Typical bulky jobs around Scotts Valley
- Sectional from a townhome living room
A large sectional won't fit the curbside program's limits and has to leave before the new one arrives. We break it down, carry it past the stairs and load it.
- Mattress and frame upstairs
A guest room needs a mattress, box spring and frame cleared. The owner cannot lift them, so we carry them down and out.
- Patio set from a hillside deck
A wooded-lot deck has a rusted table and chairs. We carry them up the slope to the trailer, so no one drags them down a steep path.
